JOB SUMMARY

The Costume Designer is responsible for designing, creating, or purchasing the costumes, and wardrobe that actors/ contributors wear in a film or advertising production.  He/ She works closely with directors, producers, and hair and makeup designers to contribute to the look and storytelling of the production.

MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)


  • Reading of the story and making a careful analysis of the plot, tone, and period of the story being told;
  • Communicates with the production manager and director to understand their requirements and be able to give direction to casts, receive a formal brief for the project;
  • Researches the fashion history and trends of the relevant time period and location;
  • Compiling a collection of visual references to draw own final designs;
  • Assembling the right fit costumes, and calling for approved casts for fitting
  • Compile each individual costume design into a costume plot 
  • Present the costume designs to the production manager and director
  • Makes sure all the final costume presentations are shared with the client and get approved
  • Processing payment for purchasing costumes based on the final approved mood board/reference;
  • Gets approval before the shooting day for the purchased costumes with the director;
  • Print the shoot list and call sheet for the shoot and follow up with the schedule throughout the shooting.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS


  • Proven experience as costume designer or similar role
  • High school diploma; Degree in fashion design or relevant field is an advantage
  • Knowledge of design, sewing and textiles
  • Understanding of a range of styles and cultural/historical elements
  • Aptitude in research
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Creativity and attention to detail
  • Well-organized and reliable
